Evelyn Curnes, Winterset

Evelyn Elane Curnes, 69, of Winterset, died of cancer Oct. 14, 1997 at the Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines. Memorial services were held Oct. 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Pastor Jon Gaul officiated and burial followed at the Winterset Cemetery.

She was born in Winterset on June 9, 1928 to Bert and Edna (Salsbury) Misner. She graduated from Winterset High School with the class of 1945.

On Sept. 29, 1946, she married Russell J. Curnes in Winterset. She was a clerical worker for J.C. Penney's in Winterset and also for Mid-American Energy before retiring. She was also a homemaker. She was a volunteer at the Madison County Historical Complex, the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, she was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She was also a lifetime resident of Madison County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; and one sister.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Ron Curnes and wife Sharon of Des Moines, Gary Curnes and wife Mary of Waukee; one daughter, Linda Counter and husband Vern of West Milford, N.J.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
