Funeral services for Joe Banks, 68, were held Sat. April 4 at First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Bauer officiating. Mr. Banks died of a heart attack March 31 at Rio Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas where he and his wife were winter residents at Sleepy Valley Ranch.

A lifetime Madison County resident, he was born April 14, 1923 to Lee and Mildred (Likens) Banks and graduated from Winterset High School in 1941. He married Ada Allen June 24, 1943 in Georgetown, S.C. He was the retired owner and operator of Bank's Greenhouse, which his parents had also operated, until 1983 when health problems forced retirement. He was also a farmer and a bus driver and custodian for Winterset Community Schools.

He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran and a member of First United Presbyterian Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, Farm Bureau and a former member of the Lions Club, all of Winterset.

Surviving are his wife of Winterset; a son, Allen and wife, Betty, of Winterset; a daughter, Connie Banks, of West Des Moines; a brother, Murray, and wife, Wilma, of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Military graveside services were held by American Legion Post 184 at Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or his family.

MCALLEN—Joe Francis Banks, a Winter Texan, died March 31, 1992, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital. He was 68.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Banks of Mission; a daughter, Connie Banks of Des Moines, Iowa; a son, Allen Banks of Winterset, Iowa; a brother, Murray Banks of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

No local service will be held. Virgil Wilson & Sons Mortuary of McAllen was in charge of funeral arrangements.
