Richard Henry Clausen, son of John Clausen and Martha Richter was born January 25, 1902 on a farm south of Dexter in Madison County, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Penn #3 school and was confirmed as a member of Zion Lutheran as a young man.

On September 10, 1924, Richard was married to Ruby Roberts. Four children were born to them: Joseph Howard, stillborn in 1930; Walter Benjamin, James Norman and Zelda Mae. The couple made their home on the farm south of Dexter and he greatly enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle and using his work horses for farming. In September of 1956 Ruby passed away.

On December 2, 1962 he married Blanche Petersen of Earlham. They enjoyed living on the farm until 1976 when Richard suffered a stroke and had been a resident of the Stuart Community Care Center since that time. Richard was called to his heavenly home on February 20, 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three half brothers, Ferdinand, Walter and Detlef; one sister, Hilda Boos and his infant son. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Blanche; his three children; two step-sons, Harry Petersen of Winterset and Richard Petersen of Earlham; 11 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted February 23, 1985 at Dexter Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor David Rempfer officiating. Helen Clausen provided organ music. Pallbearers were Ben Clausen, Gary Randel, Joe Clausen, John Clausen, Dan Clausen, and Ray Lenocker. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa.
