V. Ruth Van Tress, 90, of Winterset died Dec. 14, 2005, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Van Meter. Burial will be at Van Meter Cemetery at a later date.

Ruth Van Tress was born Oct. 20, 1915, in Warren County, near Liberty Center, to Lewis and Fannie (Herron) Van Tress and was a 1934 graduate of Dallas High School. She also attended the University of Iowa where she studied library science, the University of Minnesota and the University of Denver, where she received her master’s.

Ruth moved with her family to the Van Meter area and, for many years, was the librarian at the Van Meter Library. She was a member of the Van Meter United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Women’s Army Corps.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Edna, Jessie and Grace; and a brother, Dean.
She is survived by one niece and two nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Van Meter. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
