CORA M. APPLEGATE

Cora M. Applegate was born in Dallas County, Iowa June 21, 1881. She was the oldest of four daughters. They were the daughters of Perry and Evaline Hadley. Cora outlived all her sisters and all their spouses. All of her life was lived north of Earlham, south of Earlham or in Earlham.

She was a birthright member of the Society of Friends. During her lifetime, she belonged either to the Earlham Friends Church or to the Bear Creek Friends Church. At one time, she served for 24 years as recording clerk of the Bear Creek Quaterly Meeting.

During her childhood she attended the rural schools of the community. She graduated from the Earlham Academy in 1900. She also attended normal schools and Penn College. Then, she taught in the rural schools around Earlham for several terms.

Morse Applegate and Cora Hadley were married on Christmas Day, 1907. They were the parents of three children; Lucile Mapes and Russell Applegate of Earlham and Dwayne Applegate of Dexter. Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, five grandsons, one foster grandson, and six granddaughters. She also leaves several cousins and great host of friends.

Cora was a good wife and a kind and affectionate mother. Her only interests were her family and friends. She is not dead; she is just sway. All who knew her, will miss her greatly. However, we should not mourn this seperation. Hers was a very mature death.
