OBITUARY

Mary Ann Chance was born July 26, 1847, near Marengo, in Iowa County, and passed away February 6, 1930, aged 82 years, six months and ten days. She was the daughter of Pleasant and Ruth Ann Chance, and at an early age moved to Panora, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood.

On January 1, 1878, she was marrried to William Anthony. To this union six children were born, two of whom, Vinta and Pleasant, preceded their mother in death. The husband passed away March 19, 1916, aged 64 years.

Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Anthony resided at Panora for two years. They then moved to Kansas, and returning to Iowa in 1890 moved near Dexter. Two years later they came to Earlham where they lived until the time of death. For the past fourteen years she has made her home with her son Laney, and it was here that she quietly passed away despite the ministrations and care of loving hands.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Ellen Shook, of Redfield, and Mrs. Cora Caroline Otis, of Adel; two sons Loren DeLaney, of Earlham, and Clarence Elbert, of Kansas; four brothers; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
