Services for Shirley A. Webster, 79, Winterset, who died Jan. 6 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held on Monday Jan. 9, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery. There was also a Masonic Lodge Service at the church and military services at the graveside.

Born at Minburn on Sept. 21, 1909, he was the son of Marion and Ruth Shirley Webster. He was married to Marie E. Drews on Sept. 19, 1935 at Iowa City.

Mr. Webster was a retired lawyer of the law firm of Wester, Jordan, Oliver and Walters in Winterset. He had lived in Madison County since 1932, coming from Dallas County, and was a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II.

Awards included the Iowa State Bar Assoc. Award of Merit in 1964, the Order of Coif at the University of Iowa, Alumni Dad of the Year at the University of Iowa in 1958, Who's Who in America and Winterset Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the ear award in 1986.

Mr. Webster was president of the Iowa State Bar Association from 1957 to 1958; chairman of the Special Committee on Probate, Property and Trust Law of the Iowa State Bar Association from 1958 to 1973 which drafted the Probate Code of Iowa that took effect in 1964; member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association from 1958 to 1969; life member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association; and fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Also, president of the Iowa State Bar Foundation from 1973 to 1988; fellow of the American College of Probate Counsel; past treasurer of the American College of Probate Counsel; commander of the American Legion Post No. 184 of Winterset in 1947; and master of the Masonic Lodge from 1940 to 1941.

As secretary of the Winterset Park Commission for three decades beginning in the 1940's, Mr. Webster oversaw the building of many structures at the Winterset City Park, including the paving of the park road.

Memberships included the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post, Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Chapter No. 180.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Jane Morrissey of Boulder, Colo., and Ann Sullivan of Wauwatosa, Wis.; a sister, Dorothy Spear of Adel; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
