Glenn A. Foster of Winterset, retired mail carrier and a ranking official of the Grand Lodge of the Masonic order in Iowa, died last Wednesday Aug. 16, 1961, at the farm of his son, John Foster, in Douglas township. Death came suddenly, resulting from a heart attack. He was 68 years of age.
Mr. Foster was a life-long resident of Madison county except for five years spent at Spokane, Washington.
He was born here Oct. 12, 1892, a son of Heber and Callie Dunlap Foster. He was married here Sept. 4, 1912, to Lora Cooter, who survives him.
Mr. Foster's active life was spent as a rural mail carrier out of the Winterset postoffice, in which capacity he served for 38 years.
He was a member of the First Methodist church of Winterset, and a long-time member of the Masonic order, in which he rose to highest state rank. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of custodians of the Grand Lodge of Iowa, and associate patron of the Winterset chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He also was a past grand master and grand treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Iowa, a past master of Evening Star lodge at Winterset, and a past worthy patron of the Winterset chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving Mr. Foster are his wife; a son, John Foster of Winterset; a daughter, Mrs. Dale Ham of Winterset; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Ginn of Los Angeles; Gene Foster of Santa Monica, Calif, Archie Foster of Fresno, Calif., and Charles Foster of Grant's Pass, Oregon.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the First Methodist Church of Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath, assisted by the Rev. Paul Hann of Mt. Pleasant. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery, with services there in charge of the Grand Masonic Lodge of Iowa.
