George Frederick Abrahams, 77, died Dec. 17, 1992, at Veterans Admin. Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services were held Mon. Dec. 21 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. John Shaull officiating.
Mr. Abrahams was born in Madison County on May 19, 1915, to William and Grace (Wescott) Abrahams. He married Margaret (Williams) Roach, Sept. 19, 1975, in Winterset. A lifelong Madison County resident, he worked as a Sinclair Oil jobber, a truck driver, and served as Madison County Auditor from 1968 to 1980. He was a member of the V. F. W.Post #8142, the American Legion Post #184, the Winterset Lions Club and the Winterset Fire Department. He was a U.S. Air force veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Marie Carmichael, and three brothers.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Margaret; one son, John Abrahams of Des Moines, one daughter Janelle E. Sloper of Seattle, Wash; two sisters, Mary Null of San Diego, Calif. and Laura Kobarg of Galveston, Texas; and one grandchild, Emily.
His body has been donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences. Memorials may be sent to Madison County Memorial Hospital or the Miller / Lillard Scholarship Fund.
