Rex Van Johnson, 76, born January 23, 1900, in Warren County, Iowa, the son of Hiram W. Johnson and Clara E. Wilson Johnson, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1976, at Madison Manor North, Winterset.
Mr. Johnson was the former manager of the Farmers and Merchants Bank in St. Charles, a member of the St. Charles Lion's Club and Model Lodge No. 315 A. F. and A. M. He was affiliated with the St. Charles United Methodist Church.
The marriage of Rex Johnson to Coral Barton took place June 1, 1923, in St. Charles. The couple had two children.
Educated in Madison County schools, Mr.Johnson served as deputy county clerk of court under P. E. Rose before being elected to the office of Clerk of Court in 1943. He served as clerk until his retirement in 1949.
Surviving Mr. Johnson is his wife, Coral, of St. Charles, a daughter, Patricia Hiserodt of Edina, Minn, a son-in-law, John Snider of Des Moines, and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Dixie, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Rex Johnson were conducted Thursday, September 30, at 11 a.m. from St. Charles United Methodist Church, Rev. Eldon Ringle officiating. Burial was made at the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles.

Rex Van Johnson of St. Charles, Iowa died at the Madison Manor North, Winterset, Iowa Monday, September 27. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Eldon Ringle of St. Charles, Iowa will conduct the service from the United Methodist Church in St. Charles with interment in the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, Iowa.
Rex Van Johnson, 76, was born in Warren County, Iowa January 23, 1900 the son of Hiram W. and Clara E. Wilson Johnson. He received his schooling in Madison County schools and on June 1, 1923 he was united in marriage to Coral Barton in St. Charles, Iowa. They were the parents of two children.
Johnson was manager of the St. Charles office Farmers and Merchants State Bank. He was a member of Model lodge 315 A.F.&A.M. and the St. Charles Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Coral of St. Charles, Iowa; daughter, Patricia and husband, Dean Hiserodt of Edina, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren and son-in-law, John Snider and wife, Judy of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dixie; three brothers and one sister.
