Reese W. Bridenstine, Winterset

Services for Reese W. Bridenstine, 78, Winterset, who died at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on Dec. 20, 1984, were held Monday, Dec. 24 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.The American Legion held full military graveside services at the Winterset Cemetery.

The Rev. Eugene Klein held a Knights of Columbus rosary on Sunday while a public rosary was held Sunday evening.

Born at Iowa City, on June 12, 1906, he was the son of Harvey S. and Grace Springmyer Bridenstine

Mr. Bridenstine was a career serviceman with the U.S. Navy and had served on the USS Iowa during World War II. He was also in the Navy during the Korean War and served during patrol of the Formosa Straits.

He had retired from the Veteran's Affairs Office in 1978 as director and was a past commander of the American Legion here. He was a member of the VFW; Knights of Columbus Council at Indianola; Bishop Dowling Council of Indianola; the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a fourth degree member of the Dowling General Assembly Knights of Columbus of Des Moines.

He was married to Ceclia Morrissey May 22, 1942 in Winterset.

Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Dr. Harvey Bridenstine of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
