Cecil A. Letz, 66, died January 19 about 8:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, at the Christian church in Winterset. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery with Masonic graveside services.

Mr. Letz was Madison county sheriff from 1948 until 1954.

He is survived by his wife Helen, three sons – Carl of Eldora, Robert of St. Louis, and John of Rockwell City; four brothers – Clarence of Des Moines, Donald of Earlham, James and Dale of Winterset; three sisters – Mrs. Alice Arnold of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Bury Armbrest of Des Moines and Mrs. Vera Stout of Winterset, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Letz has operated a hotel in Rockwell City since 1964.

Cecil A. Letz Funeral Held Here Friday

Funeral services were held last Friday from the First Christian church in Winterset for Cecil A. Letz, formerly a well known resident of this community, whose death had occurred Tuesday of last week, Jan. 19, 1971, at his home in Rockwell City. The Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur, pastor of the First Christian church, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery with ritual of the Masonic Order.

Services had previously been held last Wed. from the Morton Funeral home in Rockwell City, conducted by the Rev. James E. Albertson of that community.

Mr. Letz was 66 years of age at his death. He was a native of Adair cunty, where he was born Feb. 10, 1904, a son of R. E. and Margaret Letz. He was graduated from Winterset High School, and on Oct. 23,1932, he was married to Helen Ames of Des Moines

He was associated with the Standard Oil Company in business in Winterset from 1923 until 1942, and from 1959 until 1964. From 1942 until 1948 he was a deputy sheriff of Madison County. He was then elected sheriff, serving in that capacity from 1948 until 1954.After leaving the sheriff's office he was with the Iowa Commerce commission for five years. In 1964 he moved to Rockwell City, where he operated the Hotel Brower until the time of his death.

Mr. Letz was a member of and past master of the Winterset Masonic lodge, the Order of Eastern Star and the Rockwell City Lions club. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Winterset.

He is survived by his wife; and three sons, Carl Letz of Eldora, Robert Letz of St. Louis, Mo., and John Letz of Rockwell City. A daughter preceded him in death.
