Brown Agnew, Winterset

Services for S. Brown Agnew, 86, of Winterset who died Friday, October 14,1988, at the Bethesda Care Center were held Monday, Oct. 17 at the First Methodist Church with Pastors Clarence and Zona Lautt officiating.

Born in Keosauqua, Iowa on November 25, 1901, Mr. Agnew married M. Louise Williams on May 10, 1925 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

Mr. Agnew worked on many of the first road projects around Iowa and Missouri in the 1920s and 1930s. He worked for the State Highway Commission in Iowa and Missouri Highway Commission until 1936.

Mr. Agnew and his wife came to Winterset in 1936 where he served as Madison County Engineer until retirement in 1973. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Iowa Engineering Society.

Surviving are his wife, Louise; a son, James W., of Des Moines, a daughter, Nancy Clarke,of Winterset; a sister, Mary Hornbaker, of Bonaparte; a brother, William, of Keosauqua; and six grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hester Brown Agnew, and two brothers. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
