Winterset Madisonian - December 2, 1964

Patrick E. Morrissey, a well-known farmer and business man in this community for many years, died Monday, Nov. 30, at a Winterset nursing home. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Morrissey was born in Warren county on Sept. 29, 1884, a son of Michael and Mary Ryan Morrissey. As a child, he came with his family to a farm in Union township. The remainder of his life was spent in or near Winterset.

Mr. Morrissey engaged in farming near Winterset until 1936, when he moved into town. He conducted an insurance business here until his health failed, forcing his retirement.

Mr. Morrissey was married Sept. 8, 1909, to Anna Bruns of this community. Her death occured Oct. 3, 1934. An infant son also preceded him in death.

He is survived by seven children, Bernard E. Morrissey of Winterset, Mrs. Reese Bridenstine of Winterset, Henry Morrissey of Winterset, Mrs. Francis Hochstetler of Dexter, Marguerite Morrissey of Winterset, James E. Morrissey of Winterset, and Mrs. James Klemm of Winterset.

He also leaves 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Morrissey of Whittier, Calif., and Roger Morrissey of Moline, Ill.; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Olson of Whittier, Mrs. John Adams of Montebello, Calif., and Mrs. Catherine Zeltmaier of Monterrey Park, California.

Rosary services this Thursday at 8 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home in Winterset. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church, conducted by the pastor, the V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
