Page 12BFuneral services for Bernard (Pat) Morrissey, 80, former mayor of Winterset for 13 years, were held Wed., Jan. 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Father Phillip E. Lawler officiating. Morrissey died January 27 at his residence.
A lifetime Winterset resident, he was born September 30, 1910 in Union township to Patrick Edmund and Katherine Anna (Bruns) Morrissey. He married Madolyn Gordon in Trenton, Mo., March 3, 1931. He was a self-employed farm implement dealer, owning and operating Morrissey Truck Lines from 1934 - 1941, Morrissey Farm Machinery 1941-1977 and Morrissey Motors 1949-1967.
He was elected mayor of Winterset 1975 through 1988. He received the Winterset FFA Chapter, Outstanding Citizen Award in 1965 and the Winterset Chamber of Commerce, Citizen of the Year Award in 1987. Current memberships included a lifetime membership in the American Shetland Pony Club, Area VI Shetland Pony Breeder's Association and Midwest Classic Shetland Breeder's Association. Past memberships included the Rotary Club for 40 years, the Madison County Fair Board for 25 years, president of the Madison County Fair Board for ten years and Iowa Retail Equipment Association, Board of Directors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jean Ann Morrissey of Fort Dodge; two sons, Ed Wayne Morrissey of Peoria, Ariz. and James Bernard Morrissey of Vernon, Tex.; four sisters, Cecelia Bridenstine of Winterset, Mary Dorothy Hochstetler of Dexter, Marguerite Herrick of Indianola and Ruth Ann Klemm of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Patrick Henry Morrissey of Winterset; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Madison County Fair Association.
