HIRAM ISAAC ALLEN

Hiram Isaac Allen, son of Elmer and Mary Landers Allen, was born September 6, 1894 in Madison County, Iowa. He grew up and lived out his years in Madison County, pursuing his work as a farmer until retiring in 1970. He also served as caretaker and custodian of North McDonald cemetery for several years.

On January 25, 1917 he was married to Mary Brittain. The wedding was in the Brittain home in Madison County. To this union two children were born. Violet (Mrs. Clarence McDonald) of Winterset and Homer Allen of Wasco, California.

At the age of 77 years, 3 months and 29 days, Hiram passed away in the Horton nursing home at Winterset on January 5, 1972.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Fred Allen.

He is survived by his wife Mary Allen of Winterset, his daughter Violet McDonald of Winterset, his son Homer of Wasco, California, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; by one sister, Eliza (Mrs. Hugh Hildebrand), and 3 brothers, Charlie, M. A. and Frank Allen , all of Winterset, and by other relatives and friends.

Last rites were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Rev. Ward Young officiating.

Burial was at North McDonald cemetery in Madison county.

Hiram Allen Of Winterset Died -

Hiram I. Allen, of near Winterset, member of a well-known family in this community, died last Wednesday, Jan. 5th at the Horton Nursing home. He was 77 years of age.

Mr. Allen was a life-long member of this community. He was born here Sept. 6, 1894, a son of Elmer and Mary Allen. His active life was spent in farming, but he had retired in 1970 and had been serving as custodian for the North McDonald cemetery for several years.

Mr. Allen was married Jan. 25, 1917 to Mary Brittain who survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Clarence McDonald of Winterset, a son, Homer Allen of Wasco, Calif., seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; three brothers, Charlie, M. A. and Frank Allen, all of Winterset, and a sister, Mrs. Hugh Hildebrand, also of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Ward Young, of Earlham. Burial was made in the North McDonald cemetery.

Among the relatives and friends who were here from a distance to attend funeral services for the late Hiram Allen at the Collins Funeral Home Saturday morning were Mr. & Mrs. Homer Allen, of Wasco, Calif., Mr. & Mrs. Myron --------- and Marshall of East Troy, Wisconsin, Mrs. Madeline Bennett, Mr. & Mrs. Ivan McDonald and Chris, Mrs. W. D. Creger, Mr. & Mrs. John Allen, Mr. & Mrs. Clark Tolles, Mr. & Mrs. James Wren, Mrs. Hellen Kelleher, and Mr. & Mrs. William Brittain, of Des Moines.

Also, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Clark and Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Clark, of Marshalltown, Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Davis of Orient, Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Reimann and Mr. & Mrs. Lee Porter of Adel, Mr. & Mrs. Ellis Shaffer of Waukee, Mr. & Mrs. Dallas Steenson of Adair, Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Allen, of Fort Dodge, Frank Purcell of Baxter, Iowa, Mr. & Mrs. Sam Collins of Newton, Mr. & Mrs. Marcy Baker of Orient and Olga Klimer of Schafter, Iowa.
