Funeral services for Raymond O.Brock, 96, will be held Wed. Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Bauer officiating. Mr. Brock died Jan. 4, 1992 at Madison County Memorial Hospital.
A Madison County resident for most of his life, Raymond O. Brock was born Dec. 7, 1895 in Prole to Frank B. and Sadie(Ragan)Brock. After a few years in Des Moines, the family moved to a farm west of Winterset where he spent his early years.
Mr. Brock was in the National Guard on the Mexican border in 1916; enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1917 and was quickly sent to France as Sergeant with Company A. 168th Infantry, 42 Rainbow Division. While in France he was commissioned a 2nd Lieut. and assigned to Company A. 356th Infantry, 89th Division. He served through five major battles of World War I, was severly wounded and was awarded
the Purple Heart. He was one of four known World War I survivors in Madison County.He married Doris Irene Silliman on April 24, 1920 in Winterset, who died in 1985. The Brocks were active in community affairs and were members of the First United Presbyterian Church through their 65 years together. He was Madison County Treasurer and Madison County Auditor for 34 years and was active in the Republican Party both as a candidate and a leader. He was a charter member and First
Commander of Green-Rogers American Legion Post #184 of Winterset; a charter and life member of the Lions Club, and a 72 year member of AF and AM Evening Star Lodge #43 in Winterset, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8142, Disabled
American Veterans and Rainbow Division Veterans Association.He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include a son, Raymond Lincoln Brock and wife,Frances of Poughkeepsie,NY, a daughter, Rosemary Moore and husband, George, of Overland Park, Kan., six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Military graveside services will be held by V.F. W. Post# 8142 and Masonic graveside services will be held by Evening Star Lodge #43. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Presbyterian Church.
