Services for Leslie Peary Jackson, 88, Winterset, who died April 14, 1985 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of a stroke suffered April 2, were held Wednesday afternoon at the United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. George King of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born Feb. 18, 1897 in Adair County near Hebron, he was the son of Oliver and Anna Reinmuth Jackson. Upon graduation from Winterset High School in 1916 he joined Security Loan and Title Company. After two years he worked for the Immigration Bureau in Washington, D.C., and later spent two years in the abstracting business in Montana and a year with the California-Oregon Power Co. in Oregon before
returning to Winterset in 1923 and rejoining the Security Loan and Title until retiring in 1979.Over the years he had become a familiar figure around the Madison County Courthouse, spending much time in the vault of the county recorder's office doing title searches and updating abstracts
Mr. Jackson had no children of his own but spent much time during vacations with his nieces and nephews, going camping in the Pacific Northwest.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, the former Helen Hollingsworth; a sister, Katherine Bridges of Lincoln, Neb.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
