Death of Lee Baker

Lee Baker, who resided near Lorimor, died Sunday, May 27th, in the Mercy hospital in Des Moines. He had not been well for the past year having had a cancer, and three weeks ago he became seriously ill. He was taken to the hospital Tuesday, May 22, but he did not improve.

Mr. Baker was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Baker, and was born in Taylor county thirty-three years ago. They lived in Kansas and moved to the Peru community in 1915. He enlisted in the coast artillery on December 19, 1917, and was sent overseas in March, 1918. He served there until the Armistice was signed. He was married to Nellie Belle Teel, October 19, 1921, and three children have been born to them, Ida Belle, Marion Lee and John Wallace.

He leaves besides his wife and children, his father and mother, who reside near Macksburg, and four brothers and five sisters: Rufus of Barney; George of Peru; Joe of Topeka, Kansas; Thomas of Macksburg; Mrs. Addie Catt of Valley Falls, Kansas; Mrs. Minnie Shepherd of Scranton, Kansas; Mrs. James Decker of Peru; Mrs. Nettie Green of Iebo, Kansas, and Mrs. Bertha McKensie of Macksburg.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. F. Clare McCallon, Tuesday afternoon, at the Church of Christ, and burial was made in the local cemetery.
