George Potter was born on the old Potter farm, near Patterson, 66 years ago. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ephriam Potter. He was married to Miss Hattie Goen, forty-six years ago. They resided on a farm near Patterson for twenty years, and later moved to Patterson, where they conducted the general store for thirteen years. During that time he was also the Patterson postmaster. Ten years ago the family moved to Winterset, and they have resided on North First street.

Mr. Potter continued in business here until two years ago, when he was forced to sell his store on account of illness. He became critically ill the first of November and has gradually grown worse until his death, which occurred about 7:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, March 27th. Rev. A. P. Keast will conduct the funeral services at the Methodist church in Winterset, Thursday, March 29th, at 2 o'clock, and burial will be made in the local cemetery. The Masons will also take part in the services.

Mr. Potter is survived by his wife and eight children: Roy of St. Charles; John of Patterson; Ernest of Valley Junction; Mrs. Bill Boelter of Des Moines; Mrs. Everett Quick of Patterson; Mrs. Earl Norman of Van Meter, and Mrs. F. H. Don Carlos of Perry. He also leaves one brother, N. W. Potter of Orange, California; three sisters, Mrs. Greer Mahan, Mrs. Lyman Fogler and Mrs. Charles Howell of this county, and nine grandchildren and one great grandson.

GEORGE A. POTTER

George A. Potter, son of Ephrim and Mary Potter, was born near Patterson, Iowa, Madison county, September 30, 1861, and died at his home in Winterset, Iowa, March 27, 1928, at the age of 66 years and 6 months.

He grew to manhood in the vicinity where he was born. He was united in marriage to Hattie M. Gowin, January 4, 1883. To this union seven children were born, who with his wife and nine grandchildren and one great grandchild survive him. One grandchild died in infancy. The children are, Roy, of St. Charles, John, of Patterson; Ernest of Valley Junction; Mrs. Mina Norman, of Van Meter, Mrs. Letitia Don Carlos, of Perry; Mrs. Flora Quick, of Patterson, and Mrs. Marie Boelter, of Des Moines.

Mr. Potter was the second child of a family of five, his oldest brother preceded him in death in infancy. Those surviving him are Mrs. L. T. Fogler, of Patterson; Mrs. G. J. Mahan, of Winterset; N. U. Potter, of Orange, California, and a half sister, Mrs. Sadie Howell, of Winterset, with many other relatives and friends.

He united with the Christian church at Patterson, at the age of 23 years. His membership was later transferred to the Methodist church at Patterson. Ten years ago he and his family moved to Winterset and transferred membership to the Methodist church in this city.

The first twenty years of their married life were spent on a farm near Patterson. Later he moved to Patterson and conducted a general store. In connection with this business he served as postmaster for thirteen years. After moving to Winterset he was engaged in the grocery business until his health failed.

For years he was a sufferer from diabetes and had been confined to his bed since last November. He was a patient sufferer to the end. Everything was done to relieve his suffering that tender care and loving hands could do.

GEORGE POTTER CALLED BY DEATH

Lifelong Resident Of County Succumbs After Lingering Illness-Postmaster At Patterson Thirteen Years, Resident Of Winterset Since 1918.

George Potter, life-long resident of the county died at his home in Winterset Tuesday morning after an illness of several years. Mr. Potter was born on a farm near Patterson and lived many years in Patterson where he owned a general store and where he was postmaster thirteen years. In 1918 the family moved to Winterset and Mr. Potter conducted a grocery until his death failed.

He is survived by his widow and seven children; Roy Potter, St. Charles; John Potter, Patterson; Mrs. Mina Norman, Van Meter; Mrs. Letitia DonCarlos, Perry; Mrs. Flora Quick, Patterson; Mrs. Marie Bolter, Des Moines. A brother who lives in California and three sisters, Mrs. L. T. Fogler, Patterson; Mrs. G. J. Mahan, Union township; Mrs. Sadie Howell of Winterset, also survive as do other relatives.

Funeral services are to be held this afternoon, Thursday, at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. A.P. Keast. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.
