Death of Roy Hays

Mr. Roy Hays passed away at his home on North Second street Saturday night, following a week's illness. He was 55 years old and had lived in Madison county the greater part of his life. For a few years he was in the furniture and undertaking business in Lorimor, was a resident of Earlham for a while, going from there to Kansas and later to Winterset, where he has followed the carpenter trade. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge.

His mother, Mrs. Malinda Hays, preceded him in death two weeks and he was a faithful attendant at her bedside during her long illness. Abscess of the head was pronounced as the cause of his death. He leaves his wife, two daughters and one son to mourn his loss, besides other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2:30 from Tidrick's funeral home, by the Rev. A. P. Keast. Interment in the Rock City cemetery.

Roy Hays Succumbs To Death Which Followed An Attack Of Influenza Funeral Services Monday

Roy Hays, fifty-five years old, died Saturday from mastoid infections following an attack of influenza. His condition had not been considered serious until a few days before his death. Funeral services for his mother, Mrs. Malinda Hays, were held April twentieth and he had been ill much of the time following.

He was a member of the J. F. Hays family which came to the county in 1872 settling in Douglas township. He is survived by his widow and two daughters Mrs. Alice Jarman, of Kansas City; and Mary Catherine of Winterset; a son Bruce Hays also lives in Kansas City. A brother, Earl Hays lives in Burbank California and a sister, Mrs. C. R. Peters in Winterset.

Funeral services were held from the Tidrick funeral home Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. A. P. Keast; burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Obituary - Roy Hays

Roy Hays, son of J. F. and Melinda Hays was born September 13, 1872, near Decatur, Illinois. He moved to Madison County, Iowa, with his parents at three months of age, and lived there until his marriage to Miss Mary Blanche Thomson November 27, 1895. To them were born six children.

He passed away in May 5, 1928, aged 55 years. He leaves beside his wife, two daughters and one son, Alice Melinda Jarman, Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Catherine Hays, Winterset, Iowa, Bruce R Hays, Kansas City Missouri, one granddaughter, Helen Marie Jarman, Kansas City, Missouri, one brother, Earl Hays, Burbank, California, and one sister, Mrs. C. R. Peters, Winterset Iowa.

Rev. Keast conducted the funeral services at the Tidrick funeral home Monday afternoon, May 7. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
