Francis Marion Peed, eldest son of Edmund and Eliza White Peed, was born in Lawrence county, Indiana Dec. 2, 1854. In October 1856, with his parents, he moved to Madison County,Iowa, coming by covered wagon and locating in Douglas township. There he grew to manhood and on March 4, 1879, was united in marriage to Rebecca E. McGee. To this union two sons and two daughters were born: Roy who now owns and lives on the old homestead, Ira of Adair County, Mrs. Thomas Enright of Crawford township, and Mabel who was called by death in 1888.
His wife passed away Feb. 18, 1926, and since her death he has lived and maintained his late home, mainly alone. He was stricken with a heart attack Aug. 19, and passed away at the Winterset hospital Aug. 28, 1938, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 28 days. He leaves to mourn his loss, his two sons and daughter, four grandchildren, his brother,Charles T. Peed of Hayden, Arizona, and host of friends.

Frank Peed, 84, retired farmer and one of Madison county’s oldest and best citizens died in the Winterset hospital Sunday of heart disease. On August 19 he worked all day at some unusual and hard work. The next morning while seated in the chair in John White’s barber shop he collapsed and was taken to the hospital. His condition steadily grew worse until his death on the following Sunday.
Frank Peed’s father, Ed Peed, came to Madison County in 1856 and entered a tract of land in Douglas township paying a dollar and a quarter and acre for it. Frank went to school in the township’s first school house. He married Rebecca McGee, daughter of Mat McGee in 1870. They had three children, Roy who lives on the farm today, Mrs. Thomas Enright of Crawford township and Ira of Adair county.
Early in life he commenced feeding and shipping stock and was always successful. At 21 he was a land owner and year-by-year added to his holdings until his farm told 350 acres. In late years he had resided in Winterset. The always owned a fine saddle horse or two and transacted much of this stock buying and selling, using a saddle horse or transportation.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Tidrick funeral home, Rev. M. R. Talley and Rev. Arthur Weed conducting in-service. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
