Page 1Death of Mrs. Susanna Gowin
Mrs. Susanna Gowin, a former resident of Winterset, died Thursday, April 5, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. W. Madeaux, in Des Moines. She was seventy-two years of age, and had lived in Winterset all but the last three years, when she has resided with her daughter. Mrs. Gowin was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Allen. She was married to John Gowin, October 14, 1800 (sic 1880), but he died forty years ago.
She is survived by three children, Walter of Denver; Mrs. Maddeaux and Mrs. Sadie Poffinbarger, of Des Moines; and two stepsons, William Gowin of Granville, Missouri, and J. M. Gowin of Newton. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Garlinger of Emporia, Kansas, and Mrs. Sophia Newton of Des Moines, and a brother, Elmer Allen.
Rev. F. Clare McCanon conducted the funeral services from the Church of Christ, Saturday afternoon, April 7th, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Susanna Isabell Gowins, daughter of Isaac and Mary Allen, was born in Winterset July 14, 1855, and departed this life April 3, 1928 at Des Moines, Iowa, aged 72 years, 8 months and 21 days. She spent her life in Winterset except three years in Des Moines with her daughter Mrs. Beulah Waddenux.
She was united in marriage October 14, 1882 John Gowins at Winterset, and to this union were born four children, Walter, Raymond, Beulah and Sadie. Her husband preceded her in death 40 years, Raymond dying in infancy. Besides her own children she leaves to stepsons J. M. Gowins, of Newton and William, of Gainesville, Missouri; six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Garlinger, of Emporia, Kansas; Mrs. Sophia Newton, Des Moines and one brother, Elmer Allen, of Winterset.
She was a member of the church of Christ and funeral services were conducted from the church here Saturday, April 7, by the Rev. F. C. McCallon. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
