Prominent Douglas Township Farmer was 80 years of age.
Roy M. Peed, member of a pioneer Douglas township family, died Monday, July 11, 1960, at Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 80 years of age and had been ill for six weeks.
Mr. Peed was born in Douglas township, Madison County, Jan. 30, 1880, a son of Francis M. and Rebecca McGee Peed. His life was spent in farming. For nearly half a century he had lived on the farm in Douglas township which was purchased from the government in 1856 by his grandfather, Edmund Peed
He was a member of the Worthngton Methodist Church In 1953, he was honored for 50 years of membership in the Masonic order, by Evening Star lodge of Winterset. He had been a director of the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance association since 1938. Mr.Peed was married March 29, 1911, to Grace Prall of Atlantic. She preceded him in death in 1953.
Surviving are two daughters Virginia Peed of Omaha and Mrs. Ruby Melull of Glenview, Ill. He also leaves two grandchildren, Laura and Paul Melull; a brother Ira L. Peed of Winterset; and a niece, Mrs. Mary Welty of Winterset. A sister, Mrs. Retta Enright preceded him in death and his parents.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from the Anderson-Wilson Funeral home in charge of the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist Church. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery, with Masonic ritual.

Roy Miller Peed, a lifetime resident of Madison County, died July 11 at the Madison County Memorial hospital after an illness of six weeks. He was 80 years, 5 months and 10 days of age.
Mr. Peed was born in Douglas Township on January 30, 1880, a son of Francis M. and Rebecca McGee Peed. On March 29, 1911 he was married to Grace Prall of near Atlantic, who preceded him in death on April 10, 1953.
For nearly 50 years Mr. Peed made his home on the farm that was purchased from the government by his grandfather Edmund Peed in 1856.
He was a member of the Worthington Methodist church. In 1953 he was honored as a 50 year Mason by the Winterset Evening Star lodge.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Peed of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Ruby Melull of Glenview, Ill., and two grandchildren, Laura and Paul Melull. He also leaves a brother, Ira L. Peed, and a niece, Mrs. Mary Welty, both of Winterset.
