Funeral services for Mrs. Hulda Welty, 74, who died Thursday, March 7th, 1963, in an Iowa City nursing home, were held Monday, March 11th at 10:30 a.m. at Barkers Funeral Home at West Branch with burial in the West Branch City cemetery. The Rev. Charles F. Haigh, minister of the West Branch Methodist church,of which Mrs. Welty was a member, officiated.
Mrs. Welty was born April 30, 1888, in Hancock county, the daughter of Alvin and Marie Haupt. On December 24, 1908, she was married to Nelson Welty at Winterset. Most of their married life was in the Macksburg and Winterset community in Madison County until 1948 when they moved to West Branch to make their home. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include the husband, Nelson of Iowa City; two sons, Lawrence of Torrance, Calif. and Robert of Winterset; a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Barnhart of West Branch; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Echelberger of Dows, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Gwen, David, Dennis and Connie Barnhart. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother, an infant son and a son Merl who died in Italy in World War II.
