Christoph J. Frech was born in Wurttemburg, Germany, April 4, 1851. He departed from this life at his home in Winterset, March 12, 1928, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 8 days.

He was taken seriously ill two weeks ago. He seemed to be gaining slowly until Monday morning when encephalitis developed which caused his death in a few hours.

He was united in marriage July 25, 1875 to Katherine Dorothy Shuele, who died February 4, 1917. To this union twelve children were born, six of whom died in early childhood. One son and five daughters are left to mourn his loss: Wm. F., Mrs. F. W. Groth and Mrs. Oscar Lee of Winterset; Mrs. John Mellike of Altoona, and Minnie and Pauline, who made their home with their father. He also leaves eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

On May 3, 1881, Mr. Frech and his wife came to New York. In December of the same year they moved to Iowa, locating in Warren county and in 1895 they moved to Madison county, locating on a farm near Winterset. In 1919 he left the farm and came to Winterset.

He was received by confirmation into the Lutheran church when fourteen, to which faith he remained true. He was patient in his illness and it was his desire to be called home.

Rev. A. P. Keast conducted the funeral service in the Methodist church of Winterset Wednesday afternoon, March 14th, and interment was in the Winterset cemetery.

Death Summons Christoph Frech

After Illness of Two Weeks Duration—Had been A Resident of County Since 1895

Christoph J. Frech, 76 years old, died Monday morning at his home in the southwest part of Winterset after a two weeks illness. He had seemed to improve when erysipelas developed which caused his death in a few hours.

Mr. Frech was a native of Germany, coming to the United States in 1881. The family came west to make their home locating first in Warren county and later going to Dallas county. In 1895 the family moved to Madison county where they lived on a farm near Winterset until 1919 when they came to Winterset. He was a member of the Lutheran church.

He is survived by a son William F., and five daughters, Mrs. F. W. Groth, Mrs. Oscar Lee, Miss Pauline Frech, all of Winterset; Mrs. John Melike, of Altoona; Miss Minnie Frech, of Shenandoah. Six children died in infancy and Mrs. Frech in 1917.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church conducted by the Rev. A. P. Keast. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
