Elbert Osborn found dying in car of bullet wound.
Elbert L Osborn, 29 of Winterset, was found in his car, dying of a self-inflicted bullet wound, Monday morning. The car had been parked just off a secondary road near the Earl Rhodes farm, southwest of Winterset.
He was found by Rhodes, who notified Sheriff Rex Rouse. The sheriff, Dr. Paul Eggleston, county medical examiner and an ambulance answered the call, but the young man was dead when they arrived at the scene.
Mr. Osborn had been in ill health for some time, and was known to be losing his vision.
Elbert Leon Osborn was a son of Maxell and Ella Morse Osborn, and was born at Patterson Sept. 6 1935. His entire fife was spent as a resident of this county. He worked as a painter and paper hanger.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Robert Osborn of the U.S. Army who is stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; and his grandmother, Mrs. Sallie Osborn of Winterset.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday from the Collins Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset Cemetery.
