Austin B. Gray, son of David and Ann Gray, was born in Madison county, Iowa, December 25, 1859. There he was educated and taught school for several years.

On January 22, 1886, he was united in marriage with Amelia Frances Stevens, who grew to womanhood in the same locality. To this union were born four children, all of whom are living.

Afer his marriage Mr. Gray moved on a farm near Peru, Iowa, where he resided until November 1919, when the family moved to Boone.

For the past six years he has been custodian of the Bryant school, which work he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a great friend of the children and enjoyed the co-operation of the teachers and the association with his co-workers.

He had fairly good health up until last November. He passed away on Thursday, August 2, 1928 at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 7 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and four children, one son, Clarion of New York City; three daughters, Laura Manny, Eva Peterson and Mabel Gray, all of Boone; one sister Mrs. Hattie Snapp of Long Beach, California; two brothers, Charles of St. Charles, and Lewis of Malvern, and four grandchildren, besides many relatives and a host of friends.

His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Gray was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and was also an active faithful member of the First Methodist church of Boone. In 1886 he was converted and joined the Methodist church in Madison county and has been a worker in the church and Sunday school in each locality where he lived. He was a faithful member of the men's Brotherhood Sunday school class of the First Methodist church of Boone and seldom missed a class session.

Mr. Gray was a fine Christian man, one who lived every word of his profession and made it easier for others to have confidence in religion and believe in Christ and the church. In home, church and community, he was a man who will be greatly missed.
