September 16, 1827 - August 6, 1908

H. Wilson Hardy, one of the pioneers of Madison county, died at his home last Thursday after an illness of many months. He was a man of the highest character and noble impulses. His was a life spent in doing right to his fellowmen and honoring his God. During his long life in this community he never failed in possessing the confidence and esteem of his neighbors and acquaintances.

Henry Wilson Hardy was born in Cayuga county, N. Y., Sept. 16, 1827. Moved with his parents to Erie county Ohio, when a small child.

He was married to Caroline McAndress at Berlin, Ohio, May 24, 1855. Moved to Madison county in 1856 and to Winterset in 1859. He lived on the premises where he died for 49 years.

The children are: Oran E., of Minneapolis, Clara E. Bunce, of Brooklyn, N. Y., and Bert L., of Winterset.

He was county superintendent of the schools for 13 years and taught in the city schools during the civil war.
