January 1911Mrs. Louisa Finlayson Cherry was born in Edinburg, Scotland, in 1832, and died at her home in this city, on Saturday, January 14, 1911. At the age of two years she, with her parents, came to America. After a short time in the east they removed to Zanesville, Ohio, where her youth and young womanhood was spent.
In 1859 she was married to Dr. S. B. Cherry, to whom she was a loving and faithful wife until separated by the call of death in 1882. They removed to Winterset, Iowa, in 1862. To them was given the daughter, Stella (Mrs. Hyde), who with self-sacrificing devotion has cared for her mother during the years of invalidism following the death of her husband.
Mrs. Cherry was the daughter of godly parents, who early taught her to walk in the paths of righteousness. During the latter days of her long invalidism she frequently expressed her faith in her Saviour and was heard repeating over and over again:
Jesus lover of my soul, Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high,
Hide me, Oh my Saviour, hide, Till the storm of life is past,
Safe into Thy haven guide, Oh, receive my soul at last
