Thursday, February 5,1903Frank Bennett Elderkin was born in Elkhorn, Wis., Oct. 4, 1852 and died at the state hospital at Clarinda, where he was taken for treatment, Feb. 2, 1903. His remains arrived here Wednesday morning and the funeral was held from the house at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. McDowell, after which the Maccabees, of which order he was a member, held their services at the grave.
Mr. Elderkin came to Winterset in 1878 and was married to Emma S. Garretson April 17, 1880 and to them were born six children, four of whom are still living. In 1880 he entered the employ of H. L. Putzel and after six years of service he entered the employ of Ratliff & Eastman with whom he remained 12 years.
In 1901 he moved to Hutchinson, Kan. where he was stricken with paralysis. He was brought back to Winterset in 1902. Mr. Elderkin was a loving husband, a kind and indulgent father and was highly respected by all who knew him. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

Frank Elderkin, who was sent to the insane asylum a week or two since, died there Sunday morning. The telegram announcing his death came to his wife while she was attending the funeral of her mother, Mrs. Garretson. The body was brought home and the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon.
Elderkin was about fifty years old, and has lived in Winterset many years. He was employed as a clerk in several stores and was well known over the county. While in Kansas he was stricken with apoplexy, and has been totally helpless for more than a year. He was sent to the asylum two weeks ago.
