Death of John Drake

John Drake died Saturday, September 8th, at the home of his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Erl Hays, in Winterset. He was 74 years of age at the time of his death.

The deceased was a son of Manning and Henrietta Drake and was born in Peoria, Illinois, January 24, 1854. He was married to Martha Jane Johnston, Oct. 7, 1867, in Winterset, and he has since make this community his home. They had two children, Maud (Mrs. Erl Hays) who had come from their home in Burbank, California, to assist with his care, and S. M. Drake, of Winterset. Mrs. Drake died four years ago.

He is survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, also two brothers and two sisters. The brothers are F. H. Drake of Denver, Colorado and Julius Drake of Overton, Nebraska; while the sisters are Mrs. Kate Shipley, of Perkin, Illinois, and Ida Spiller, of York, Nebraska.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. A. N. Simpson, pastor of the Christian church at Earlham, Monday, September 10th, at 2:30 o'clock and burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
