Death of L. F. Clifton

Leroy Franklin Clifton passed away Wednesday, August 5 at his home at Peru. He was 76 years of age.

Rev. E. H. Sands conducted the funeral services at the church at Peru. Burial was in the Ebenezer cemetery.

Mr. Clifton was the oldest child of Sylvester and Maria Macky [sic] Clifton and was born August 16th, 1854 near Leesburg, Ohio. He came with his parents to Iowa about 1855 settling first in Appanoose county, moving a little later to Madison county where he has since made his home.

March 21, 1878 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Anderson who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton adopted one baby boy and three other motherless children were taken into their home.

Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers, James of Peru and Charles of Osceola, three sisters, Mrs. M. C. Mease of Truro, Mrs. Olive Millard of Harvey and Mrs. Lou Deardorff of Peru.

Mr. Clifton united early in life with the church. He was also a member of the Independent order of Odd Fellows and of the Masons. He was actively engaged in farming for 35 years. After moving to Peru in 1929 he was still interested in farming and stock raising until compelled by failing health to retire.

GROVELAND

Mr. and Mrs. Charley Clifton and Mr. and Mrs Clarence Clifton drove to Peru, Friday to attend the funeral of Charley’s brother, Roy Clifton. Our community offers sympathy to the Clifton family in their loss of this brother and uncle.
