Page 5Ralph Hope of Winterset Dies
Ralph W. Hope of Winterset died Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Iowa-Methodist hospital in Des Moines, following a brief illness. He was 62 years of age.
Mr. Hope was a life-time resident of this community. He was born in Madison county Nov. 2, 1910, a son of Claude and Grace Borden Hope.
He was employed in heavy equipment construction work for many years, retiring in 1967. He was married Nov. 11, 1934 at Winterset to Gwendolyn DeLong, who survives him.
He also leaves a son, Larry Hope of Winterset; four grandchildren; two brothers, Leland Hope of Winterset and Harold Hope of Albany, Ore.; and five sisters, Mrs. Irene McCollom of Davenport, Mrs. Gertude Mapes of Earlham, Mrs. Dorothy Knight of Winterset, Mrs. Edna Addy and Mrs. Helen Tilly of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence C. Hope, a daughter Sharon Kay Hope, and two brothers, Donald and Claude Hope.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Newton Coughenour, pastor of the First United Methodist church here.
Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
