J. E. EMERSON DIED TUESDAY

Death Came at His Home in Winterset After Long Illness

J. Earl Emerson, a life-long resident of Madison county, died this Tuesday, Aug. 2, at his home in Winterset, after an extended illness. He was 69 years of age, and had been an invalid the past eight years. Mr. Emerson was born in Peru on Oct. 1, 1885, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Emerson. His active life was spent in farming largely in Scott township, with the exception of two years spent in North Dakota.

He was married Feb. 15, 1905 to Floda Delong. They were the parents of three children, one of whom died in infancy.

Mr. Emerson was active in the affairs of his community over a long period of years. He was a member of the Peru Methodist church, and the Masonic lodge in this community.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Irene Beverlin of Peru; a son, Rex Emerson of Peru; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Mease of Peru; and two brothers Ralph Emerson of Newton, and Gale Emerson of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home here, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Peru cemetery.

PERU HAPPENINGS

Relatives and friends of this community were in Winterset, Friday, August 5th, to attend the funeral of Earl Emerson, who died at his home in Winterset Tuesday after an illness of several years. Burial was at the Peru cemetery.
