Mrs. Mary J. Powell --

Mary Jane Hunt was born in Peoria county Illinois Feb. 19, 1844. She passed away at the age of 80 years 2 months and 7 days at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Clifton in Peru where she had made her home for the past five years. Her death came at the end of an illness of five weeks duration.

She was united in marriage to Oran Powell, Dec. 25, 1862. He preceded her in death 15 years ago. To their union were born nine children, six of whom are living, three passing away in early life.

She leaves to mourn her loss, Mrs. James Clifton of Peru, William Powell of Lorimor, Mrs. Frank Creger of Ogden, Samuel Powell of Winterset, Mrs. Wheatley Harper of Barney, and Melvin Powell of Laporte, Minn.; 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She united with the Methodist church in early life and has lived a Christian ever since. She was a loving wife, a kind mother and a friend to all who knew her.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Peru, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton of Winterset, assisted by Rev L. M. Kirby of Peru. Interment was in the Peru cemetery."

"Card of Thanks -- We wish to sincerely thank the many neighbors and friends, who so kindly helped us during the sickness and death of our mother, Mary J. Powell. -- The Children."

"Death of Mrs. M. J. Powell -- Mrs. Mary Hunt Powell, aged eighty years, died in Peru on April 26, after a few weeks' illness. She had lived in Iowa for nearly forty-five years. Fifteen years ago, her husband, Oran Powell, passed away. Three daughters and three sons survive their mother.

Funeral services were held in the Peru Methodist church, in charge of Rev. David J. Shenton of Winterset, with Rev. L. M. Kirby of Peru, assisting.

PERU --

Mrs. Mary Powell passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jim Clifton, Saturday evening. The funeral was held in the M.E. church Monday afternoon. Rev. Shenton of Winterset, had charge of the services. Burial was made in Peru cemetery.
