Death Occurred Friday at Home of Daughter in Winterset -- Mrs. Julia A. Clifton, a native of Illinois but a resident of Madison county for most of her long life, died Friday, June 21, in Winterset at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floda Emerson. She was 93 years of age. Mrs. Clifton was the former Julia Alice Powell. She was born at Chillicothe, Ill. on Oct. 2, 1863. She was married to Lyman DeLong on March 18, 1886. They were parents of three children, of which one son, Oran, preceded her in death. The husband and father died on May 22, 1894. Later she was married to James Clifton, who also preceded her in death. She had become a member of the Methodist church in youth. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Floda Emerson of Winterset; a son, Lawrence DeLong of Lorimor, a brother Melvin Powell of Laporte, Minn.; two stepchildren, Sylvester Clifton of Peru and Mrs. Zella Davis of Helena, Mont.; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
