Kurt Anderson now stands in the presence of the Lord—healed, without pain. In perfect splendor. On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at home in Winterset, Iowa, Kurt completed his earthly journey and went home to Jesus. He was about loving Jesus most and serving Him first. He lived a life full of love, living and walking in the likeness of Christ. As 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us, Kurt was always ready to share the hope within him—with gentleness and respect.

Born on May 1, 1963, in Spencer, Iowa, Kurt was the son of Gaylon and Janet Anderson. He graduated from Laurens-Marathon School, attended Kirkwood Community College, and completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Service and Administration at Iowa State University. While at Kirkwood, Kurt met Cindy, the love of his life. They recently celebrated 41 years of marriage, building a life and family rooted in faith and love.

Before following his calling to ministry, Kurt worked as a crop specialist. In 1994, he answered God’s call, becoming a youth pastor and serving in church ministry in Winterset from 1994 to 2004, then again from 2017 until his passing. As an Elder at Redeemer Church, Kurt led with humility and a servant’s heart, offering guidance and care to everyone he encountered.

Kurt’s impact wasn’t confined to his hometown. For over 20 years, he served with Youth for Christ Military, sharing the Gospel across Germany, Turkey, England, and the United States. His deep love for youth and passion for ministry impacted countless lives across borders and generations.

He loved sharing music, leading worship, and playing the guitar. Always the mentor, he encouraged people who wanted to try instruments and singing from up front in the church to join him in the moment.

Even as he battled cancer, Kurt’s faith never wavered. Trusting in God’s promises, Kurt felt at peace in facing eternity. He often reminded others that God doesn’t waste anything, believing every moment in God's plan had purpose. In his final months, Kurt continued to pray, encourage, and love others, reflecting Christ’s heart in every way. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers and support he received from family and friends during his illness.

Kurt’s sense of humor, kindness, and servant’s heart will be remembered by all who knew him. He had a rare gift for making people feel seen and valued. His infectious joy, combined with his deep faith, uplifted those around him, making a lasting impact on his family, friends, and the people he encountered during his lifetime.

Kurt is survived by his father, Gaylon Anderson; his beloved wife, Cindy Anderson; his sons, Nick (Anabel) Anderson and John (Rachel) Anderson; and his cherished grandchildren: Ayrwen, Liana, Leo, Isaac, Louie, and Asher. He is also survived by his brother, Kelly (Sally) Anderson, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Kurt was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Anderson.

A visitation will take place at New Bridge Church, 1305 W Jefferson St, Winterset, Iowa, on Sunday, October 20, from 4-7 p.m., with the family present from 5-7 p.m.Services will follow on Monday, October 21, at 10:30 a.m. at New Bridge Church, with burial at Gordon Cemetery in Madison County.

Memorial gifts will be directed to the family for future ministry programs. Donations may be given at the service or mailed with "Family of Kurt Anderson" in the memo line to Redeemer Church, 113 S John Wayne Dr, Winterset, IA 50273.
