From Family Member Obituary

June 19th, 1964 – September 16th, 2024

Jennifer was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, when the family lived in Baldwin, Iowa. She passed away peacefully at the University of Chicago Hospital with dignity and her husband at her side.
Jennifer was a lifelong member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and was deeply committed to its values.

A graduate of Earlham High School (1982) in Earlham, Iowa and Earlham College (1986) in Richmond, Indiana, Jennifer was a highly successful software programmer, rising to the title of Vice President Engineering III at Bank of America. A national merit scholarship honoree, she enjoyed using her brain to solve issues at work and puzzles in her spare time.

Jennifer was a supporter of the arts and sciences, and enjoyed attending Broadway in Chicago shows with her beloved husband and exploring all of Chicago’s various museums. Jennifer was also a lover of music, having played the flute and piccolo in her younger years. She particularly enjoyed the musical genius of U2 and made a point of attending a live concert during each tour, including the initial and concluding shows at the Spere in Las Vegas. She lovingly referred to herself as a flower child.

Jennifer was also a Trekkie, a lover of sci-fi and mystery literature. She delved into fan-fiction and found a cadre of like-minded women who followed the TV show Highlander with whom she spent many years conversing on a weekly basis and attending conventions.

Jennifer was also an avid sports fan; always supporting her Cubbies and women in sport, especially the Chicago Sky WNBA team in her last several years. Coincidentally, Jennifer met her husband Vince through a shared love of running and married him in Yellow Springs, Ohio, on May 19, 1988. The couple went on to raise their two children, Christina and Andrew, there as well. Jennifer and Vince relocated to Chicago in 2014 to take in all the offerings of the city. Jennifer spent the past decade as a proud Hyde Park resident and enjoyed running and walking along the lake shore, Promontory Point and Jackson Park. Jennifer completed both the 2023 and 2024 BOA Shamrock Shuffle 8K races.

Over the past fourteen months Jennifer cherished making many trips to visit her grandchildren. This past summer she threw herself a weeklong 60th birthday celebration, sharing her favorite activities and eateries with friends and family visiting from near and far.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Carolyn Treadway, and her stepfather, Paul Wagner. She is survived by her husband and partner of 37 years, Vincent Peters, their two children Christina Peters (Ravi Shankar) & Andrew Peters (Amber) and two grandchildren, Isaac & Juliette; as well as her four siblings, Dorothy Matthews (Samuel), Daniel Treadway, Michael “Irving” Treadway, and Brian Treadway (Geraldine Glodek).

Jennifer donated her body to the University of Chicago School of Medicine. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, 10:30am, at the Quaker House, in Hyde Park, Chicago, at 5615 S. Woodlawn Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gilda’s Club for supporting families affected by cancer, or to the Scattergood Friends School, the Quaker JH/HS located in West Branch, Iowa, which Jennifer directly supported.
