Widely-Known Peru Woman Succumbs at Age of 66 Years

Mrs. D.M. Travis, a well-known resident of the Peru community died at her home near there last Friday. She was 66 years of age.

Mrs. Travis was the former Marie Elise Gonseth, daughter of Louis Samuel and Marie Louise Gonseth, and was born Oct. 21, 1877, in Aigle, Switzerland. She was married at Beggs, Okla., on Sept. 13, 1906 to D.M. Travis. They came to Peru to make their home, and her entire married life had been spent in that community.

She had been a member of the Methodist church at Peru since 1906.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Irma Loomis of Thayer; one son, Dale Travis of Peru; four grandchildren; six brothers, Louis Gonseth of Muskogee, Okla., Felix Gonseth of Winterset, John Gonseth of Murray, Alex Gonseth of Stanfield, Ore., Charles Gonseth of Beggs, Okla., and Frank Gonseth of Osceola; and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Jones of Spring Hill, Mrs. Margaret Jones of Des Moines, Mrs. Lena Bivins of Locust Grove, Okla., and Mrs. Florence Veris of San Francisco.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Peru Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Arthur Weed of Tingley. Burial was made in the Ebeneezer cemetery. Pall bearers were: Ed Jones, Will Morris and Frederick Gonseth, Amel Priest and Emery Travis.
