Wednesday, October 13, 1943Pioneer Woman Came Here in 1865 in Covered Wagon
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Delong, who had lived in Madison county since coming here in a covered wagon as a 1-year-old baby, died at her home near Truro last Friday, at the age of 79 years.
Mrs. Delong was the former Mary Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of John and Mary Hamilton, and was born near Springfield, Ill., on May 1, 1864. The following year her parents brought her to Madison county.
She was married here on Feb. 18, 1886, to Rush Delong. They were the parents of six children. One son, John William Delong, gave his life for his country on the battlefields of France during World War I. Her husband died May 27, 1932.
Mrs. Delong is survived by five children, Rose Delong at home, Mrs. Ivy Bierma of Nevada, Mrs. Mary Bierma of Indianola, and Mrs. Olive Draper and Mrs. Pearl Leggett of Truro. She also leaves nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ann Patterson of Truro.
Funeral services were held from the Kale Funeral home at Truro Sunday in charge of the Rev. Marguerite Shepard. Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery at Truro.

Mrs. Lizzie Delong a long time resident of Madison Co. passed away at her home in the Oak Run community Friday, Oct. 8. Her funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, interment was made in the Hartman cemetery near Truro.
