Was One of Madison County's Most Widely Known Citizens

Seth T. Walker, one of Madison county's most widely known citizens, died at a hospital in Des Moines last Saturday after a brief illness. He was 75 years of age. His death came as a shock to most of his friends, as he was apparently in good health until stricken last week.

Most of Mr. Walker's life was spent in Madison county where he was known as a successful business man and farmer. He was born here on January 8, 1868, the son of Ira C. and Lucy Ann Walker. On March 5, 1890, he was married to Joanna McDonald. They were the parents of five children. The wife and mother died in 1916.

On June 29, 1927, he was married to Elizabeth Lodge, who survives him. The last 12 years of his life were spent at his home in Bevington.

Mr. Walker was a well known political figure in this country. He served two terms on the county board of supervisors, and in 1940 was a unsuccessful Democratic candidate for representative in the state legislature from this county.

In addition to his wife: he leaves his five children: Mrs. Grace Bertholf of Des Moines, Mrs. Gladys McNerny of Nebraska, Mrs. Mary Smith of Napa, Calif., and Raymond of Minneapolis, Minn., and Russell Walker of Gilmore, Calif. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Agnes Crumbaker of Winterset, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday. Brief rites were observed in the Ramsey Richards funeral home in Winterset, followed by the principal services which were held from the Jefferson U. B. church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. A. Elliott. Burial was made in the Jefferson cemetery.
