Beverly J. Smith, 62, of Winterset, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Greater Regional Health in Creston.

Services will be held at a later date in Olathe, Kansas. The Powers Funeral Home of Creston is in charge of local arrangements. McGilley & Frye Funeral Home will be assisting in Olathe, Kansas. Online condolences will be given at powersfh.com

Beverly Jane (Oxley) Smith, daughter of Lee F. Oxley and Alice Maxine (McDaniel) Oxley, was born on January 9, 1962, in Shawnee, Kansas. She was educated at Olathe North High School in Olathe, Kansas. She raised four children, Bobby, Jerry, Jacob and Elizabeth.

Having moved to Winterset, Bev owned and operated the Starlight Café in Winterset for many years. She completed her working career, serving as the manager for the last 15 years at Git & Go Convenience Store in Winterset. Her recent illness, came as a surprise. Beverly loved family and friends, dancing and riding motorcycles, drinking coffee, collecting recipes and playing pool in local leagues.

Bev was survived by her son, Jacob (Canzetta) Farmer of Pomona, Kansas and daughter Elizabeth (Shea) Hunter of Pomona, Kansas; six grandchildren Zoe, Brentley and Hartlynn Farmer and Daisy, Ruby and Shelby Hunter; her boyfriend Randy Scarberry; a brother Roger (Sondra Webb) Oxley of Leavenworth, Kansas and a sister Cheryl Oxley of Hillsdale, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Bobby Farmer and Jerry Farmer and two brothers, Glenn Oxley and Marlin Oxley.
