Roger Hircock, 97 of Winterset, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the home of his daughter in Des Moines.

Roger was born on October 5, 1926, the son of Lannie and Lois (Clark) Hircock in Winterset, Iowa. His early years were spent on a farm four miles west and south of Winterset. He went to country school for eight years in Lincoln Township, and then four years at Winterset High School, where he graduated in 1944.

Roger was in the Army from 1950 to 1952, and was a Sergeant in the field artillery. He was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and also spent time in Fort Benning, Georgia and Dugway Proving Ground in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was during this time he met and married his wife, Juanita. They met on a dare from her Uncle Ray Nelson that she send him a Christmas card, so she did.

Roger grew up in church, and received Christ personally in 1952 at the old Grace Baptist Church. He was a devout and faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church.

He was self-employed with his brother, Carl, for 22 years, their company being Hircock Brothers Auto Small Engine Repair, he then worked at Massey-Ferguson Manufacturing in Des Moines, and he retired from Martens Electric, Plumbing, Heating and Air-Conditioning, in Winterset.

He loved woodworking for his family and friends, and made them many wonderful wood pieces. From 1993 until 2005, Roger and Juanita spent many enjoyable winters in Arizona.

Roger is survived by daughter, Ramona (Dr.Gregory) Peterson; son Larry (Angela) Hircock; and daughter, Judy Leaf. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jason) Kuhlemeier, Justin (Melinda) Holliday, John (Breanna) Holliday, Jessica (Danny) Ferber, Elizabeth (Robert) Hank, Christina Leaf, Courtney Leaf, and Megan (Oliver) Tucker; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Esther Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lannie and Lois, his wife, Juanita, an infant brother, Edwin, brother, Carl, and son-in-law, Curt Leaf.

A visitation where family will be present to greet friends, will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Grace Baptist Church in Winterset, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.

Burial with military honors will follow in the Winterset Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grace Baptist Church.
