September 21, 1958 - January 29, 2024

Mike Patterson, 65 of Winterset, passed away peacefully Monday, January 29, 2024 at home after a brave battle with cancer. In honoring his wishes, there will be no services, but he hoped the next time you raise a glass you would reminisce of good times you spent with him. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Michael Eugene Patterson was born on September 21, 1958, the son of Eugene and Ruby (Hamner) Patterson. Mike was a lifetime resident of Winterset. Three years after graduating from Winterset High School in 1977, Mike entered the US Air Force. He was in the service for four years, and was a member of the Winterset American Legion Green Rogers Post 184. While stationed in Alexandria, LA, Mike met the love of his life, Sandra Scallan. They were married on May 14,1983, and have been married over 40 years.

Mike had many passions, the greatest being fishing in Canada each year where he and Sandra made many fond memories together and also with friends. Another favorite hobby was hunting where he spent hours in his tree stand enjoying nature.

He loved cooking and grilling, and would often have his smoker fired up, or something simmering on the stove. He really enjoyed quiet Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR, football, or any sporting event. He and Sandra attended many Drake softball games where they followed their favorite hometown players.

Mike owned and operated Patterson Monuments and Cemetery Lettering for many years, where he took great pride in his work.

His survivors are wife, Sandra; sister, Beth (Randy) Molln; brother, Jeff Patterson; niece, Mary Collins (Chandlor); great-nephew, Zai Collins; and special friend of the family, Jason Tindle.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Ruby; son, Chris; and sister Angela.

The family wishes to thank EveryStep Hospice and also Jeff Olson of Montross Pharmacy for their wonderful care and support.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at caldwellparrish.com.
