Hamilton’s Funeral Home
Des Moines, Iowa

Mary N. Wallace, 92, was called home to be with her Savior Saturday, January 26, 2013.

All services will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral will begin at 3 p.m., with a visitation for one hour prior to the service.

Mary was born January 3, 1921, in Panora, Iowa, to Marie (Wilson) and Frank Stephenson. As a child, Mary loved the farm with her mom, dad, brothers, and sisters. They always had something to do. Summer was haying to put up and in the fall, corn to bring in out of the fields. Wintertime joined all the neighbors together. They had sledding parties out in the snow, back when families knew how to have fun together that didn’t cost too much.

She worked for Firestone Tire & Rubber, Younker’s Print Shop, and Laundry Time. She was a member of Central Bible Church. Mary loved gardening and canning. She enjoyed working in her yard and caring for her lawn. She was also very talented at sewing. She loved life, most of all, her family and friends. She cherished her three children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She traveled to visit them often.

Mary is survived by her son, James L. Stump and his wife, Jeanne of Yuba City, CA; son, Melvin E. Stump and his wife, Barbara of Ashfork, AZ; sister-in-law, Helen Stephenson of Des Moines; step-daughter, Millie Bagley of Des Moines; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lots of special friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stephenson; husband, Rev. Fred Wallace; step-mother, Inez Stephenson; brothers, David and Francis Stephenson; sisters, Margaret Phillips and Virginia Stephenson; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Stacy Turpin.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Mary.
