Wednesday, November 8, 2023Judith (Judy) Foley Atkinson was born at the old Winterset Hospital on Oct. 7, 1942, to Roy and Wilma (Young) Foley. She passed peacefully on Oct. 29 after a brief battle with cancer.
Judy graduated from Winterset High School in 1961 and worked at Look Magazine in Des Moines prior to marrying Dale Atkinson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on March 27, 1965.
Judy enjoyed going to auctions, collecting Peru, Iowa, memorabilia and gambling at “The Boat”.
She is survived by a daughter, Tori (Tom) Tracy of Florida; and a son, Kory (Nicole) Atkinson of Winterset. Also surviving are grandchildren, Karissa (Lindsey) Greenwood-Tracy, Sierra (Tyson) Warwick, Dillion Atkinson, and Noah Atkinson; a great-granddaughter, Lily; and a brother-in-law, John of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale; and siblings Jake Foley, Bud Foley, and Thelma Thurman.
Per Judy’s wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a future date at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Peru United Methodist Church or Every Step Hospice in Winterset.
