Clarence Thornburg dies at 81 years

Clarence Thornburg, life-long resident of the Winterset community, died Tuesday, May 21, at Memorial Hospital here. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Thornburg was born in Madison County Feb. 9, 1892 (sic), a son of William and Elizabeth Roby Thornburg. He had been retired in recent years, after spending his active life in farming and general labor.

He was married Feb. 14, 1905, to Metta Bardrick who survives him. He also leaves a son, Fred Thornburg of Marshalltown; two daughters, Hazel Thornburg and Mrs. Harold Craft of Des Moines; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Tincher of Hutchinson, Kansas, who is 102 years of age.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial will be made in Winterset cemtery (sic).

Retired Farmer Dies at Winterset

WINTERSET, IA. — Clarence Thornburg, 81, retired farmer died Tuesday night at the Madison County Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, a son, Fred of Marshalltown; two daughters, Hazel Thornburg and Mrs. Verdie Craft, both of Des Moines, a sister, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Collins Funeral Home.
