Verdie E. Thornburg Craft died March 24, 2003 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital following hip surgery. She was a resident of Union Park Health Services care center.
No service is planned, however cards may be sent to the family in care of Hamilton's Funeral Home at 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines.
She is survived by her grandson, Alvin Barcheski, Jr. and his wife Margo of Madison, Wisconsin; her granddaughter Janet Green and her husband Steve of Des Moines; her son-in-law Alvin Barcheski of Des Moines; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Green of Des Moines.
Mrs. Craft was born September 18, 1910 in Winterset, Iowa and moved to Des Moines in 1942. She worked as a munitions inspector at the Ankeny ordnance plant during World War II, and later as a waitress at the Hi Ho Grill in Highland Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Barney" Craft of Des Moines; her parents, Joseph Clarence Thornburg and Metta Bardrick of Winterset; a sister Hazel I. Thornburg of Des Moines; a brother Fred A. Thornburg of Des Moines; and her daughter, Beverly Ann Thornburg Barcheski of Des Moines.
