LAST RITES FOR R. E. CARPENTER

Dies At His Farmhome Following Stroke. Wife, Six Sons Survive.

Funeral services were held last Monday at the Fisher funeral home in Van Meter for R. P. Carpenter, who died at his home south of farmhome Saturday, October 10, following a stroke. He was 83 years of age.

Reynolds P. Carpenter was born at Cherry Valley, Illinois, December 26, 1856, the son of Joseph and Flora Bartholomew Carpenter. He was united in marriage to Belle Posten at Malcolm, Iowa, September 23, 1885 and to this union were born seven children. One son, Ivan, preceded his father and death.

He lived in Illinois until 1905 when he moved with his family to Kansas, then to Missouri in 1920 and to Iowa in 1938.

He made farming and stock raising his lifetime occupation. He had enjoyed fairly good health and was active for a man of his age until Friday, October 2, when he suffered a stroke, from which he never fully recovered.

He is survived by his wife, six sons, Lewis I. of Glenns Ferry, Idaho; Howard R., of Wilmington, California; Fred W., of Van Meter; Arthur R., of Council Grove, Kansas; Dowey of Des Moines and Lee of Oregon city, Oregon but now in the U. S. Navy; one brother, Charles of Cutler, Wisconsin, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Transcriber's note: The phrase "south of farmhome" should probably say "south of Van Meter". Per the Iowa Death Certificate, he died in Jefferson Township, Madison County.
